Help Us Secure a New Home for Iceland’s Muslim Community

Dear Brothers, Sisters, and Supporters of the Islamic Cultural Center of Iceland (ICCI),
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” Today, we invite you to join us inthis sacred mission—not to build anew, but to secure a ready-made building to serve as our new mosque and cultural center, a lasting home for our growing Muslim community in Iceland.

Our Growing Community, Our Urgent Need

Since its founding in 2009, the ICCI has been a cornerstone for nearly 4,000 Muslims in Reykjavík and beyond. Our current rented space at Skútuvogur 1H is no longer sufficient to meet our community’s needs:

  • IQRA School Growth: With an increasing number of students learning Arabic, Icelandic, English, and Qur’an, our classrooms are overcrowded.
  • Eid and Religious Events: Major celebrations like Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, as well as daily and Friday prayers, require a larger, dedicated space to unite our community in worship.
  • Community Programs: From youth activities to interfaith initiatives, we need a facility to support education, connection, and integration into Icelandic society.

Our Vision: A 500-Square-Meter Ready Building

To address these challenges, we aim to purchase an existing 500-square-meter building in Reykjavík to serve as our new mosque and cultural center. With property costs at approximately 1 million ISK per square meter, we need to raise 500 million ISK to secure a spacious, functional space that meets our community’s needs and reflects our commitment to faith and unity.

This new facility will provide:

  • A large prayer hall for daily prayers, Friday congregations, and joyous Eid celebrations.
  • Expanded classrooms for the IQRA school to educate and inspire our youth.
  • Spaces for youth programs, women’s activities, and community events.
  • A library and meeting areas to foster learning and interfaith dialogue.

Why Your Donation Matters

Your contribution will help us secure this vital space and create a lasting impact:

  • Spiritual Reward: Supporting a mosque is a sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity), earning blessings for you and your loved ones.
  • Community Strength: Your donation will provide a permanent home for worship, education, and unity for Iceland’s Muslims.
  • Legacy for Generations: Help us create a space that will serve our children and future Muslims in Iceland for years to come.

How You Can Help

We need your support to make this dream a reality. Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Donate Today: Visit icci.is/donation to make a secure donation in ISK, USD, or EUR. Every krona brings us closer to our goal!
  • Spread the Word: Share our campaign with family, friends, and on social media to inspire others to join this noble cause.
  • Join Our Events: Participate in our fundraising events and community gatherings to stay engaged and informed.

Our Commitment to Transparency

The ICCI is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Muslim community and promoting harmony in Iceland. All funds will be managed transparently, with regular updates on our progress shared on our website (icci.is) and social media.

Let’s Secure Our Future Together

Iceland’s Muslim community is small but vibrant, and with your support, we can purchase a ready building to serve as our mosque and cultural center—a place of worship, learning, and unity. Let us come together to make this vision a reality and create a space that reflects our faith and commitment to Icelandic society.

“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”

— Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Funerals

As a key institution for Iceland’s Muslim community, with a mosque at Skútuvogur 1H, 104 Reykjavík, it likely facilitates Islamic funeral rites

Funeral Services

As a key institution for Iceland’s Muslim community, with a mosque at Skútuvogur 1H, 104 Reykjavík, it likely facilitates Islamic funeral rites (Janāzah) in line with Sharia principles. These typically include:
Washing (Ghusl): The body is washed by family or community members of the same gender, using white cotton cloth for shrouding (three pieces for men, five for women).
Funeral Prayer (Salat al-Janāzah): A collective prayer for the deceased’s forgiveness, often held at the mosque.
Burial (al-Dafin): Burial occurs as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours, without a casket, facing the Qibla (Mecca). Gufunes churchyard in Reykjavík has designated plots for Islamic burials.

Given Iceland’s burial regulations, which mandate churchyard burials, the ICCI may coordinate with local authorities for grave allocation. The center’s imam, Ahmad Seddeeq, could lead or advise on these rites. For specific arrangements, contact the ICCI at +354 555 0160 or via their website https://icci.is/contact-us.

Matrimonial

The ICCI’s mission includes supporting the Muslim community in religious matters, which could extend to marriage-related guidance or ceremonies.

Matrimonial Services

The Islamic Cultural Centre of Iceland (ICCI in Iceland) explicitly offers marriage services, including:

Civil and Islamic Marriage Process:

Marriage is processed by Imam Ahmed Seddeeq, requiring couples to follow procedures outlined by the (Iceland’s Health Service Executive). Couples must register their intent to marry with a civil marriage office, provide documentation (ID, proof of address, PPS number), and coordinate with the Imam for a date at least three months in advance. Nikkah (Islamic marriage) without civil registration is not facilitated.
The focus of ICCI Iceland appears to be on religious and cultural activities rather than formalized marriage services.

Role of the Imam: Given that Imam Ahmad Seddeeq, who holds a BA and Master’s in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University, leads the ICCI, he may offer guidance or perform Nikkah ceremonies informally upon request, as is common in many Islamic centers.

Community Support: The ICCI’s mission includes supporting the Muslim community in religious matters, which could extend to marriage-related guidance or ceremonies.

Cultural Context: With a small Muslim population (under 1,300, or 0.33% of Iceland’s 385,230 residents), the demand for a formal matrimonial service may be limited, and such services might be handled on a case-by-case basis.
